Most Used Essential Oils

Here are my favorite and most used essential oils.  I use these almost daily.  Far right is lavender, this brand is easy to find at any store, I would love to find some Bulgarian lavender oil because the scent is so much stronger.  I use this oil for the comforting effect it has, after a shower I mix a few drops in with coconut oil and use it as a moisturizer.
Next is sweet orange oil.  I picked up this up from ebay.  If you've never tried essential oils try this, it really is a mood lifter.  I use it in my face serum.  I mix a few drops in with 1 oz of rosehip seed oil and vitamin e oil.  Sweet orange oil has a brightening effect on dull skin and I have noticed!
Next one I picked up recently at Marshalls because I'm low on the next two.  This oil is a blend of Camphor, Cedarleaf, Cedarwood, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Fir Needle and Rosemary, so it opens airways and has a lovely nature scent.
Next is Aura Cacia peppermint oil,  I use this for congestion or sinus pressure.  A few drops in a small pot of boiling water, let it boil for about 10 seconds then inhale the steam aaah so much relief!
And last but not least because it packs the biggest punch aroma-wise.  This is Olbas oil, essential oil of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Cajeput, Wintergreen, Juniper and Clove.  Cajeput?  hmm a quick look up its a tree that shares properties with tea tree and eucalyptus both in chemistry and aroma.  This essential oil blend is strong!  I throw it in my bag so if I'm congested or have a headache I waft the bottle under my nose and its so helpful.
Do you use any essential oils?  Which do you like and how do you use them?

Elephant Print

Do you ever get overwhelmed or too lazy to look through the hoards of clothing at the thrift shops?  Its happened to me before.  My eye will just sweep the racks and pick out an odd or interesting color and pattern.  The result of one of my sweeps is this top.  It has sort of a Hindu inspired elephant print on it.

New Thrift Haul Fall 2014

Grandpa Chic

I found this cardigan last week and of course I was drawn to it because of the stripes, but then I noticed the slightly puffed side panels and it went from grandpa chic to chic-er.  Is that a word?  I'll check later.

Velvet Fash-inspiration

For many of us, its still too warm to justify wearing velvet.  I love the fashion that fall and winter brings, but I hate the cold so I'm dreading the season changing.
Anyway tempus fugit and pretty soon I'll be wearing velvet.  Here's a collage of gorgeous velvet things I made on polyvore.
A fashion look from September 2014 featuring Mint Velvet tops, Charlotte Olympia pumps and Lanvin handbags. Browse and shop related looks.
In collage:  Black velvet heart clutch, Blue velvet chair by Cyan Design, Black velvet kimono House of Fraser,  Crushed velvet cropped top from Etsy, Fun Charlotte Olympia velvet Panda pumps, and this gorgeous Lanvin velvet minaudiere.
More velvet inspiration!

Below this is Tadash Shoji fall 2014 RTW.  I love the structured black velvet top with the flowy black skirt, it could definitely be made into a more daytime wearable version.Tadashi Shoji | Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Put a Bird on It! Thrifted Look

Thrifted cable knit sweater and these bird printed trousers I picked up recently.

I was reminded of Miu Miu's bird prints a few seasons back, love it so much!

This makes me recall that Portlandia skit where the two add birds to everything.  I'm going to add the video so you can see what I mean and then your mind will be poisoned too with this hilarious skit every time you buy bird printed things lol.

A Little Sport

I picked up this fleece lined sweat shirt for 95 cents last week.  I'm thinking of cutting it up, but for now on this pre fall day it works with these black and white shorts.

Eye Magnet

One of the things that lures my eye every time I go thrifting is houndstooth.  Its timeless and with fall and winter around the bend the tessellated heavy garments will be worn a me anyway.

Some pin worthy inspiration!

Recent Impulse Thrift Buy

Saw this mid century mini console while thrifting for $15, it needs some work so I was able to ask the manager for a lower price and got it for $10.  It helps to be friendly with the people that work at the thrift shops you frequent.
If you habitually visit pinterest, then you know about the mid century craze.  The iron hairpin legs on this table are quite pricey so if I don't decide to fix it up I can always re use them elsewhere.

Minimalism with a Dash of Flair

Good Tuesday to you.  I am back from the temporary dead of being sick for the last parts of August.
Practicing minimalism with this thrifted look, but I have to add something with a bit of flair because otherwise it would be a little too, well, minimal.  So striped dorsay flats and giraffe cuff it is.
This slit maxi skirt was a recent find.  Its so easy to become overwhelmed by the sea of black skirts at thrift stores, but when you take the time to look you'll find one with character even though its still minimal.

Easy Loose Zipper Fix ThriftShopGirlKt

Do you have a great pair of whatever that you don't wear often simply because of a loose zipper?  Here's my quick fix to avoid an xyz situation.  Thanks for watching and reading.  More later as I'm slowly slowly recovering from this cold.

I have been sick for the past week bleeeck!  Not even enough energy to be fashionably creative like her in the picture (Lupita Nyong Miu Miu Spring 14' ad)
I was thrifting last week and from around the corner I heard this guy coming towards me with this deep coarse cough and yep all over me!  Ugh, it was too late to turn away I knew I would be sick and sure enough the next day I was.

Muted Purple

This shade of purple has caught my eye a lot lately.  A dusty muted purple or deep purply taupe, is how I can best describe it.  Most typically worn in colder seasons, but who cares its pretty!  This is Pure Ice nail polish in Moonlight.  This gorgeous shadow is Milani's Bella Purple, and mixed with gold its even more stunning.  You can see where I dipped my gold brush in it.

Organza Fashion

This season I have loved what designers did with organza and playing with sheer fabrics.

Top Left: Fendi, Victoria Beckham, Barbara Casasola, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Antonio Berardi, Theory, Burberry Prorsum, Erdem, Ostwald Helgason, Lacoste, Christopher Kane from

Sheers can be worn boldly for the whole world to gawk, or like myself, a little more realistically modest.  I adore organza!  Coming up next week I'll be sharing some sheer pieces from my closet.  Until then more inspiration!  Like these separates I put together on polyvore:

70s Fashion

This gaucho jumpsuit has a mind blowing print on it, much like a lot of 1970s printed fashion was.  I love the back on this, or lack of back.  Its a jumpsuit that can be worn dressy with heels and just around with flat leather sandals.
Do you have anything loud print-wise that you adore?  Tell me about it, I love a good print.

Print Mixing

I recently thrifted this cotton grid skirt and since its a small print I think it goes well with a larger print.  They clash but in harmony.  In August heat cotton and silk are definitely the way to go, they're light an airy.

Styling a Denim Skirt

Denim skirts are great for easy chic minimalist fashion.  I recently thrifted this skirt for 95 cents and love it!  It has a flattering high waist pencil fit and has a lot of character in the back.

I haven't worn these thrifted overalls in a while, mostly because the material definitely holds in the heat, so its an indoor look today.  I have this thrifted sheer taupe top on underneath.

The Ugly Wallpaper Dress

Husband's words not mine lol.  He means well, just like a good friend you can always count on to be sincerely honest, maybe a little ruthless, but still honest.  Ugly wallpaper or not, I still love this hand made dress and I was excited when I saw it on the rack at Goodwill.  It has a great mod shift dress cut and an adorable collar.
