Farmer's Market Haul

Happy weekend onlookers out there =)  Today before a monsoon set in I stopped over at the farmer's market.  Besides my usual eggs I pick up, I had to get some of these Hen and Chicks or Sempervivums.

Their latin name means live forever, but the actually don't.  They generally only live for 3 years.  I told the farmer as I admired them that I couldn't buy them because I wouldn't have full sun to keep them in ( I plan on keeping them inside potted near a window )  he said they grow fine in part shade.  We shall see if I can keep them alive lol.

Went Thrifting Today

Just a short wander around Goodwill (I had a donation discount card) spotted a disappointment:

This was a cool denim spotted shirt dress.  $10 with the discount is still pricey IMO, but I was considering buying it because I have an affinity for denim dresses.
Have a peak inside my cart before I made it to the dressing room:

These great leather Navajo moccasins, a leather basket woven bag, taupe 7 For All Mankind oxfords, and this houndstooth scarf.
And later in the dressing room...

these uuuuh-mazing booties with cut out ankles!  In love!  They were $4.  Leather and a realistic heel height-hah that makes me sound old.  Have I said I love them yet?  I've seen some at Zara and other shops, but I rrreally didn't want to shell out $60+ for them.  I'm perfectly fine handing over $4.

Thrifted Look

Another find from this past weekend's thrift haul.  This chain scarf pattern collar top was $1 also I believe.  Its modern to me even though its an oldie pattern, its still a goodie.  I paired it with these stone wash grey jeans and my woven wedges.

The One Dollar Top

This is a simple linen top, but I saw the sleeves in the racks at a charity shop and knew I had to have it.  I love how the floral applique makes this top much more interesting.

April Favorites

I always love reading and discovering unique cool products.  Some of these should be no surprise they made it to The List of favs.
1. Halva this stuff is delish!  It's marbled sesame seed paste and chocolate.  This brand not as good as the Jova brand, but still scrumptious.  You can grab it at World Market for a couple bucks.
2. bareMinerals quad eyeshadow The Next Big Thing.  Such a gorgeous set of shadows.  Usually the case with shadow compacts there are 2 maybe 3 that are good, but all the colors are impressive soft and colorful in this quad.
3. Rosewater and Glycerin, this stuff has a soft pretty rose smell.  Its refreshing to use after sitting in the sauna.
4. Elf professional eyeshadow brush, at only $1 at Walgreens its like you're getting away with something bad because this brush is awesome!  Soft, but full and the perfect stiffness to use along your upper lash line for smudging.
5. Salon Perfect Mood Ring.  Another thrifty beauty buy from Walmart at about $4.  So many people have commented on this polish, its a pretty iridescent lilac blue.
6. Maybelline Color Tattoo Seashore Frosts, beautiful color!  I reviewed it here.  Its that good I bought a back up because I believe these are LE.
7. Make Up Forever Aqua Brow Ash 25.  First I loved brow powder and wouldn't deviate from it, but this is an all in one for brows, it fills in great looks natural and seems to hold brow hair in place too.  Love it!

D'orsay Flats

These cute shoes are trending lately as are black and white stripes, together they make a sandwich of cool!  I adore stripes regardless of trend and I'm glad more of it is readily available, especially in a shoe.  D'orsay flats are comfy and quick, making them great for spring and summer.

Thrift Things

A few odd and entertaining things seen this past weekend at a few thrift shops.
This heavy iron grandfather clock is a pencil sharpener!  It even had a working pendulum.

Adorable vintage Valentine cards.

A magic jewelry box, it said on the box only you can open it, and they were right I couldn't get it open, hopefully the person who bought it could.

and who wouldn't need this softball sized pin??!

Thrifted Look

Yay for birthdays and thrifted polka dot dresses.

Polka dot vintage style collar dress is from Goodwill, and lizard bag from a charity shop.  My favorite shoes lately are these cap toe pvc side flats.  They add modern edge to a look.

Ingredients
  • Recipe: Snickers Popcorn
  • 8 quarts air popped corn (about 2 cups of kernels)
  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup salted peanuts
  • 30 "Fun Size" Snickers bars coarsely chopped
  • 3 oz melted semi sweet chocolate (optional)
How to Make

  3. Remove from heat and stir in your baking soda.
  4. Pour over your popcorn and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Transfer to waxed paper lined counter and sprinkle peanuts on top. Stir until all is coated evenly.
  6. Transfer popcorn into a large roasting pan and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.

  10. Let set and store in an airtight container.

Spring Colors

I normally love my dark colors year round, but I do adore bright happy girly colors in my makeup.  Three close to perfect spring makeup pieces are bareMinerals the Next Big Thing eyeshadow quad, Revlon Photoready cream blush in Coral Reef, and Nars Satin Lip pencil in Lodhi.  And get those silk scarves out to perk up your hair.  This Givenchy one was given to me from a good friend =)

Maybelline Color Tattoo Seashore Frosts

This is from Maybelline's LE Summer Collection.  Seashore Frosts is the most intriguing of all the colors.  Its blue and purple iridescent color with golden shimmer.  One swipe on your finger and it swatches as nice as it looks in the pot!

Thrifted Look

Love the tropic color palette.  It doesn't have to be taken too literal by wearing resort wear.

I wanted to balance the bright makeup colors.  I think the colors paired nice with this thrifted silk tank and this dark wash very cool high waist denim skirt.  I feel glamorous in this skirt, almost as if I should be sporting some victory rolls with it.

Avocado Mask Skin Benefits

Its one of those things universally known for all kinds of goodness for you, but something I rarely try, when I do though it feels lovely!  I didn't do anything fancy, just simply mash it up and wore it until it oxidized (turned brown)  then washed off.  It left my face clean and moisturized.  And I noticed took care of some black heads.  ew but yay

In case you needed technical persuasion, if you're a dry skin sufferer, Avocado contains humectants, which are chemicals that attract and hold water. Avocado on your skin will attract and add moisture to your skin and the avocado oil will form a barrier to help seal in moisture and protect your skin from the elements.  Regular avocado facials using pureed avocado fruit may help decrease or slow the signs of aging and protect against visible sun damage because it contains vitamin A and C.

Nars Lodhi

So I did an non thrifty thing and picked up a new Nars satin lip pencil in Lodhi.  Nars describes it as a vibrant coral, its vibrant alright.  A bright pink coral.  This lip pencil is such a treat for the lips too, a gentle touch to your lips and you'll get great color.  Its wears well too even through eating and drinking.

Closet Orgainization

Hoarder of clothes and need more space?  I picked up these hangers at Wal Mart for about $5.  They can hold 6 skirts/pants/dresses.  Its an ultra simple solution, but does save space take a look:

Still in the packing process, but now I'm onto my closet, so be expecting some random closet photos and hopefully some great organization discoveries.  Thrifted look today is this unique magenta sweater and this semi sheer giraffe sort of patterned blazer.  Threw on my Duckie sunglasses too, while the sun is still out.

And the details,

NOTD Emerald Green

I recently picked up Revlon's Top Speed polish in Ocean 340.  What a pleasant surprise this polish is, I was excited to use it, but was expecting to have to use 2-3 coats.  This polish went on smooth and with a well saturated brush, 1 coat is really all that's needed!  Its a beautiful eye catching color!
