Metallic Varsity

Somewhat off topic to begin with, but I came home from yoga and was struggling to take down my hair bun and this side bun happened!  lol it might not look like much, but to someone who finds hair to be just an afterthought, this is so pretty!
On to the thrifted look, I have my trusty thrifted wool bubble coat, varsity sweater, black jeans, and a pair of ultra metallic oxfords.
Here's to wishing you too an unexpected surprise for your Thursday.

Simple Shape Changing

Have you tried taking a piece from your wardrobe and changing its shape to make it more interesting?  A favorite piece of mine lately is this over sized plaid t shirt I thrifted, wearing it large and boxy is very modern minimalist, but today I gathered and knotted it to the side for a retro cropped look.
Shorts and hiker boots were also thrifted.

School Lady Dress

I found this wool plaid school lady dress at Goodwill.  It has a deep vneck and I love how it pairs well with a sheer under layer and a faux fur collar.  Its really warm thrifted look, with the exception of the peep toe booties, they will most likely be switched out because of the snow that's on its way.

Experimental Thrift Buy

Here we are for a #throwbackthursday  Another edition on the subject of jeans.  Flared jeans.  A style of denim that would usually make my face cringe.  Mostly for the fact that they are difficult to wear if you're not tall and lean.  I myself am average and well, average.  I find it necessary to wear heels with flared jeans so I don't sink into the image of dumpy and stubby two oh so non desirable appearances lol.
This pair of light wash flared jeans were an experimental thrift buy.  The denim is soft and the flare is subtle, so its a nice place to start.  I paired it with this loose pin striped blouse that looks pajama chic.  And wore them with heels of course!  Wooden chunky wedges to fit the 70s vibe flared denim give off.

and more flared jeans for inspiration!  From left, Dsquared2 2015 Resort, I think going with a high waist flare would be most flattering as it elongates the body.  Middle, from Stockholm Street Style, a casual tomboy look.  Lastly, image source unknown I spotted it on Google images, but dark denim always a more slimming version.
My feelings on flared denim is still lukewarm, but I love experimenting with fashion.  I would never pair it with a big floppy hat, to me, that's overkill, but with other 70s inspired pieces like brown leather, interesting prints, and wooden shoes, that's ok with me.  When in doubt, pair it with something striped.

70s Tribe

A full thrifted look.  Red tribal pattern knit and a recent buy, this Express maxi skirt from way back-it has their old 80s/90s tag.  I like how the buttons stop mid length so there's a good size slit in front, not good size lewd, but still interesting.  The 70s piece are these wooden chunky wedges, they're misleadingly easy to spend the day in.

Ready for the Cold

What creature have I got on my head you wonder?  Its a faux Cossack hat, indigenous of
If I'm wearing a warm coat and hat, the clothing underneath can be whatever.  This wool cocoon coat and Cossack hat are extremely warm.  I look forward to the cold so I can wear this statement hat.  Its a deep red oxblood color, I always get compliments on it.
Plaid oversize t shirt was a recent thrift find.  You will probably be seeing it regularly around here.

Nails Ready to Party

Happy Friday everyone!  Joy joy!
I picked up this polish yesterday by Salon Perfect called Rough Around the Edges.  Its a fun pink without being too girly.  It has tons of black speckles and has the texture of sand.  While the formula isn't the best, it was less than $3 at Wal Mart and its a unique polish so its cool with me.

I Refuse to take my Pants Off

My yoga pants that is.  Hah.
This a.m. began with a yoga class centered around ab work, I'm sure tomorrow it will hurt to laugh.  If asked, I will just lie and say these are leggings because most yoga pants can pass for them anyway.
Also picked up a new lip colour.  This is Sephora's cream lip stain in 04 Endless Purple.  I have a Sephora gift card from Christmas that is burning a hole in my wallet.

Pale Pink in Winter

Very thrifted look.  A favorite piece I'd love to wear daily if I could, without people looking at me with a raised brow, is this wool pale pink sweater.  This pale pink color is so fresh and goes so well with many different makeup looks.
Wool bubble coat and striped wide leg trousers were also thrifted.  Today is all about warmth and wearing oversize pieces in a flattering way.

Back on the Saddle

Happy New Year thrift friends!
Channeling a bit of Fran├žoise Hardy with this thrifted top and high waist jeans.  Paired this look with cashmere socks and these disco saddle shoes.  Where does the disco part come into play?  Well, the height and the funky cut out.  Love these shoes!  They will not just sit in my closet to be admired from time to time either, because I can walk with ease in these.

Gorgeous Windows

Holiday windows are a must see this time of year in NYC.  I find these displays so inspiring, they make me daydream and think creatively with my wardrobe as well as inspiring me to shop...ah if only the prices weren't a massive hurtle.  Anyway, here are some of the beautiful displays when I went walking by Bergdorf Goodman.

Ankle zipper jeans from the 80s!  Embellished with a cute denim bow.  They've made a come back at popular shops like Asos and Top Shop, but I can tell you, there are many to be had at the thrift store.  They're bitchin' ...ah lol terrible just terrible.  For more 80s slang here's a link haha, get your laughs in

Plaid and Stripes

Its very difficult to walk away from a plaid dress at thrift stores.  So I didn't.  This one is wool and I love that it has a deep v neck so layering piece shows though.  Black and white stripes go well with this dark plaid, as does leather.

Dressed Up Outdoorsy

We've been having no coat required kind of weather here lately.
I'm layering today with this thrifted wool buffalo check mens shirt over this striped cotton t-shirt dress.  Fleece lined leggings of course and a repeat fall winter favorite, hiking boots from Goodwill.

Shorts in Winter

Only with fleece lined leggings of course.  I am seemingly fixated on window pane printed clothing, and I'm sure if I see window pane house wear items while thrifting I would go to it.

Up close, I have to show you this gorgeous nail color by Essie called No Place Like Chrome.  I've been wearing it a lot, its so shiny.  And I'm mixing metals with this gold wire and stone bracelet.
The cat sneaking in the photo is Tip, she's the neighborhood adopted cat but frequents my house the most, I suspect the good food and endless pets have a little something to do with it.

Casual Ensemble

Window pane print is most often found it black and white, I found this linen collar top in black red and white, aha!  Have I charmed you with my thrifting skills?  I kid.  Anyway, this is another find I will get a lot of wear out of.  High rise jeans were also thrifted.

Layering Part Deux

Completely thrifted look today.  This knit striped top reminds me of something my mom used to wear when she would garden, its a repeat favorite of mine.  High waist shorts and these dark wash leggings are warm enough to wear outdoors especially with these shearling hiking heels.  Finishing touch, a recent thrift find, this $4 wool cocoon coat.

Cold Weather Must Haves

This is the not the cold weather must haves as in surviving the cold, well a few could qualify for function, these are a few pretty things that go great in the cold weather.  I have to add, that you can find similar items thrifting for sure.

A fashion look from December 2014 featuring crewneck sweaters, black bootie and faux fur shawl. Browse and shop related looks.
Starting with a fur accessory, adds such a beautiful texture to your look.  I adore this fur snood, its from River Island $24 which is a nice price.  Below, Zoya's polish in Blu, such a gorgeous frost touch color.  Left of that is cut out booties, I have found cut out booties at Goodwill before and grabbed them right away.  They work for the cold weather because you're foot is still covered, but they're more interesting.  These are by Kenzo.  Above boots, a gorgeous Fair Isle sweater by Adam Lippes.  I've said before these are the sweaters of the season and there are great vintage ones to be had thrifting.  The last addition to this list is Nars satin lip pencil in Luxembourg.  I love this color with a winter sweater!  And yes I did mean to shout, its so vibrant and eye catching, in a crowd during winter you see greys and blacks its nice to break up the uniformity with a bright gorgeous lip.

Grey thrifted sweatshirt and this favorite almost forgotten maxi skirt.  I love the drama of the pleating.  Underneath the skirt is ultra warm fleece leggings, such an amazing invention!
Adding more layering, this is a blazer I thrifted for less than $1, I sewed the pearls on to make it more interesting (video here and then to keep my neck warm and to add more drama to the berry toned lipstick, I put on this thrifted fur collar.

Tip for Buying Beauty Online

Even if you're not an avid thrifter, I'm sure you like saving money.  Buying beauty products online from outlets other than official retailers can be kind of worrisome, especially from Ebay.  One amazing resource I use online is, I'm able to look up the beauty product there, enter in the lot number, and it verifies authenticity by when it was made and gives you an estimated expiry date.  I can tell you from experience using it, that it is very accurate.  Need proof?  Of course we all do,here's a picture of a bad beauty buy off of Ebay.

One of my favorite lip balms, Caudalie's lip conditioner.  It normally retails for $12 for just the lip balm, so I was happy to find a set for the cost of the balm.  When I received it and opened it, I discovered the smell to be acrid and dry, not the normal soft white grape scent.  After this I found the cosmetic calculator site ( I entered in the lot number on the bottom of the balm to find it was made more than 3 years ago.  Ugh.
Anyway this site could be a girl who buys beauty online's best friend.  And they have so many brands listed from Adidas to Yves Saint Laurent.
