Saturday

I am savoring the few random warm days we have left this year.  I went out to the yard sales this morning.  I thought I got a pretty good start on the morning, but each one I went to people had nothing but scraps left.  It was sort of entertaining though because I was on the trail of some die hard pickers.  These two ladies in a fancy hauling van were at every yard sale I stopped at, they did a scan of the yard sale with a cynical hawk eye and said "there's nothing for me here I'm leaving" it was funny because she practically announced it so people would get out of her way.  I know with some pickers time is money, but they do miss out on the best parts about yard saling, meeting the people, talking about nothing, and finding something useless you cannot live without...like a toothbrush cozy or something.

Gauchos

The term is referring to a South American cowboy.  The style of wide short leg trousers is what Gauchos used to wear.
I recently thrifted this pair of gauchos.  I know this style of trousers create a divide in the fashion world, similar to Birkenstock sandals.  I am obviously on the love em' side.
This olive green chunky knit was also a recent thrift find, heels were from Asos some time ago, and I just got these gorgeous knuckle rings from Pixie Market.

Vintage Sweater Vest

Ode to the vintage sweater vest, thrift shops are full of them.  Most remain homeless.  They're difficult to wear or just appear too silly.  This one drew my eye because of the jewel tone green it is, and I find it wearable because it closes high enough to wear as a top, not to mention it is not unbearably itchy like most wool vintage vests.  Its a keeper!  Jeans were thrifted also, they've just naturally torn with wear.

How to Wear Overalls and Not Look Like a Child

Today's look is this thrifted chambray top and black overalls.  I think overalls can look more mature with simple accessory choice.  These cap toe heels do the trick with making my overalls look grown up.

Hot Pink and Shiny Silver Thrifted Look

Hello warm Wednesday.  Warm enough to bare legs cool enough to wear a chunky sweater.  This fuschia dress and chunky knit sweater were thrifted.  My metallic shoes are a thrifty non thrifted buy.  If you're a fashion lover surely you've spotted metallic loafers from Jcrew, Marni, Gucci etc.  for oh only a few hundred dollars.  I found these metallic oxfords at JcPenney for $26 on sale.  Weee!  I love shiny silver shoes, I think they're more of a statement than gold.

Thrifted Look

This is a 100% thrifted look.  I'm pulling out my warm gear because I get cold so easily.  This oversize fleece sweater cape has an attached scarf I love the silhouette it makes.  Bold red camisole tank I think goes nicely with this bib chain necklace.  I have these ribbed knit trousers on, they are so warm.  Chelsea boots were also thrifted, as I said 100% thrifted look *high five*

On my face two favorites lately.  Nars Pigalle lipstick and Shea Moisture Varkala Spice blush.  The pair compliment one another so well making a warm earthy look

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Its the beginning of fall so the weather is pretty bipolar here.  Today is warm enough to get away with shorts.  So I did this plaid shirt all the way up to my neck because I love that look, pointy see through flats and a see through umbrella to match.  And now I feel like breaking out into a Mary Poppins number.

Menshirt Mini Dress

The only way I'd wear a mini dress is with leggings.  They add that extra confidence you need to sit down in public places without all the fidgeting.  If ya know what I mean.
This is actually a vintage oversize shirt I thrifted and I layered it with this denim vest for a 70s inspired look.  Green knit leggings were from Marshalls and hiking boots were from Goodwill.

More on Face than Body

Today is all thrifted.  The high waist black jeans are a recent find and something I see being like a second skin this autumn.  If there was any doubt that I have animals...and lint..well these jeans will expose that for sure!
The cost run down of this look is less than the lipstick on my face lol.  So that's how I like to spend money.  Save on clothing splurge on face.  With a pretty minimal look like this I woke it up with Nars satin lip pencil in Luxembourg.

70s Inspiration Thrifted Shoes

Found these amazing bohemian wooden heels at Goodwill.  Love the style!  Pairing them with some funky socks remind me of Prada's 70s interpretations. Colors and styling from the 70s can make some dizzy, but as they say 'everything in moderation.'

And now for some Prada looks!

Striped T-Shirt Dress

Hat and denim vest top was thrifted.  This striped t-shirt dress was a steal for $7.  Its a great piece to have in your wardrobe as a canvas you could do anything with, just like a great pair of jeans.

Most Used Essential Oils

Here are my favorite and most used essential oils.  I use these almost daily.  Far left is lavender, this brand is easy to find at any store, I would love to find some Bulgarian lavender oil because the scent is so much stronger.  I use this oil for the comforting effect it has, after a shower I mix a few drops in with coconut oil and use it as a moisturizer.
Next is sweet orange oil.  I picked up this up from ebay.  If you've never tried essential oils try this, it really is a mood lifter.  I use it in my face serum.  I mix a few drops in with 1 oz of rosehip seed oil and vitamin e oil.  Sweet orange oil has a brightening effect on dull skin and I have noticed!
Next one I picked up recently at Marshalls because I'm low on the next two.  This oil is a blend of Camphor, Cedarleaf, Cedarwood, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Fir Needle and Rosemary, so it opens airways and has a lovely nature scent.
Next is Aura Cacia peppermint oil,  I use this for congestion or sinus pressure.  A few drops in a small pot of boiling water, let it boil for about 10 seconds then inhale the steam aaah so much relief!
And last but not least because it packs the biggest punch aroma-wise.  This is Olbas oil, essential oil of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Cajeput, Wintergreen, Juniper and Clove.  Cajeput?  hmm a quick look up its a tree that shares properties with tea tree and eucalyptus both in chemistry and aroma.  This essential oil blend is strong!  I throw it in my bag so if I'm congested or have a headache I waft the bottle under my nose and its so helpful.
Do you use any essential oils?  Which do you like and how do you use them?

Elephant Print

Do you ever get overwhelmed or too lazy to look through the hoards of clothing at the thrift shops?  Its happened to me before.  My eye will just sweep the racks and pick out an odd or interesting color and pattern.  The result of one of my sweeps is this top.  It has sort of a Hindu inspired elephant print on it.

New Thrift Haul Fall 2014

Grandpa Chic

I found this cardigan last week and of course I was drawn to it because of the stripes, but then I noticed the slightly puffed side panels and it went from grandpa chic to chic-er.  Is that a word?  I'll check later.

Velvet Fash-inspiration

For many of us, its still too warm to justify wearing velvet.  I love the fashion that fall and winter brings, but I hate the cold so I'm dreading the season changing.
Anyway tempus fugit and pretty soon I'll be wearing velvet.  Here's a collage of gorgeous velvet things I made on polyvore.
A fashion look from September 2014 featuring Mint Velvet tops, Charlotte Olympia pumps and Lanvin handbags. Browse and shop related looks.
In collage:  Black velvet heart clutch boohoo.com, Blue velvet chair by Cyan Design, Black velvet kimono House of Fraser,  Crushed velvet cropped top from Etsy, Fun Charlotte Olympia velvet Panda pumps, and this gorgeous Lanvin velvet minaudiere.
More velvet inspiration!

Left Mango velvet suit, Right was a random find from pinterest this blue velvet suit is gorgeous!!
Below this is Tadash Shoji fall 2014 RTW.  I love the structured black velvet top with the flowy black skirt, it could definitely be made into a more daytime wearable version.Tadashi Shoji | Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection http://sulia.com/channel/models/f/33aeb399-3d12-4bbb-9e27-cb2febdd64c1/?source=pin&action=share&btn=small&form_factor=desktop&pinner=118487941

Put a Bird on It! Thrifted Look

Thrifted cable knit sweater and these bird printed trousers I picked up recently.

I was reminded of Miu Miu's bird prints a few seasons back, love it so much!

This makes me recall that Portlandia skit where the two add birds to everything.  I'm going to add the video so you can see what I mean and then your mind will be poisoned too with this hilarious skit every time you buy bird printed things lol.
