Fair Isle Thrifted Look

In the north of Scotland is a small island called the Fair Isle, that's where this pattern and technique of knit is from.  Fair Isle sweaters are the quintessential garb of fall and winter don't you think?
I have it over this oxblood reptile texture dress.  Chelsea boots were also a thrift find.

The details are a new found love, Wet n Wild's lipstick in Cherry Bomb.  A beautiful wine red with hints of a plummy purple.

Grey on Grey

Favorite Grey oversized sweater and window pane shorts.  Today's weather has been a cliche London  weather day, fog and rain.

Happy Friday

Hope its sunny where you are.  The cold here has showed up today and its almost painful to get hit by that wind.  Because of that, I'm skeptical about the yard sale listings online, but I'm still up for dragging my butt out of my warm bed to go out and look for some cool pieces.  I'm trying to finish a mini wall gallery in my bedroom and I need a few more interesting pieces.
I hope to report back with some great finds.  Have a good weekend thrift friends!

Styling Sweats Part 2

Retro style glasses, tessellation print collar top, sweat pants, and ankle cut out booties, make today's thrifted look.  Everything thrifted except these Miu Miu rasoir inspired glasses, they were a thrifty buy off of ebay.
Its nice being able to go about your day in sweats giving off the illusion of having it pulled together with a comfortable collar shirt and a moisturizing lipstick.

The Past Life of Thrifted Clothing

Do you ever wonder about the past life of a thrifted piece?  Let's not think of grimacing possibilities lol.   This gorgeous dress I showed in a haul video some time ago reminds me of the glamor from the show the Love Boat, its definitely circa 1970s/80s  and has probably been seen at parties where they sipped dry martinis.
I don't want to wait for my next cruise ship party, so I paired it with this sweatshirt, high socks, and wedge booties.  I like mixing beautiful pieces with casual ones.

Bold in the Cold

I seem to go for this hot pink color in the fall and winter.  I wish the fuzz on this thrifted sweater was also on the inside...but that might add a strange gorilla like bulk.  Needless to say, I love this bold atomic pink for this time of year.  Its a change to the usual beloved dark colors.

Cropped and Cuffed

Happy Friday.  Thrifted look today, this is the softest sweater I own.  These black high waist jeans are a semi-new thrift find.  They have an odd ankle, its almost boot cut, which I DISLIKE!  So I'm doing a little 90s trick, pull together and cuff up to give the appearance of a skinny fit.  Do you remember doing that?  It works for me.
I tucked my hair in the turtle neck, I need to get a few inches cut off.

Move Over Sweat Pants

Fleece lined leggings are one of the best examples of functional fashion.  After a long day, there's something to be said about the excitement of slipping into something comfortable like sweats or in this case keeping your something comfortable on.
My favorite place to pick up fleece lined leggings is Marshalls.  Some I've found to be a little finicky with washing directions, so I usually wash them all in cool water and hang dry so I can keep them soft and not have them turn into baby pants.

In the Nude

Nude lipstick for medium olive tan warm skin tones, is sometimes a challenge.  I like the look of a pale fleshy lip especially with a thick lined cat eye and mega lashes, I love that 60s look.  In the past trying that out, I felt like I looked great but the mirror said otherwise, it was the verge of death by dehydration look.
The nude lip shades that work well with my warm skin tone have earthy brown or mauve influences in them.  Here's some of my favorites.

From left, Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte in Daringly Nude 655, this is the palest I will go, anymore fleshy or nude and I'll be headed for the look I described earlier.  Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain in Terra Crave, Nars Semi Matte lipstick in Pigalle, this and the Jordana one are the earthy brown nudes.  Lastly, Milani Nude Chic, a very easy wearing nude, and I find this one really universally flattering.  Yes let's cover the cosmos with this one, it can be worn casually and with that smoky eye.

Warming Up a Summer Dress

Two great thrift scores, this olive green chunky knit and this vintage white eyelet lace dress.
My eye kept going to this white dress each time I got dressed, why restrict white to summer?

Here are the details, thrifted silver bracelet, my fragrance today and very often lately is Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black, and on the lips, Maybelline's Creamy Matte lipstick in Divine Wine.

Favorite Autumn Winter Fragrances

Finally doing a fragrance video.  I am by no means a connoisseur on the subject, I do admire those that are though, they're like olfactory poets.
In the colder months I love break out my fragrances that have deep scents like woods, deep vanillas, tobacco, and spice.  This collection can be unisex and I think that's the modern route perfume has taken, I think women don't want an obviously girly scent all the time.  Fall and winter are the perfect time to wear muskier deeper unisex scents because they go through the senses better in the cold weather.  These fragrances have that head turning quality, that nose following maybe awkward pleasure face effect lol.  Simply put they're good so here's the list.
La Maison de la vanille Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar
West Third Tobacco 1812
Kate Walsh Boyfriend
Nest Midnight Fleur
Joya Composition No 1
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black
Watch my video for description of the fragrances and what feelings they evoke oooh.
Tell me, I'm dying to know, what are your favorite autumn/winter fragrances?

Plaid Shift Dress

Plaid is easily a wardrobe favorite of mine.  This look is not thrifted *gasp*!  If its not thrifted it has to be something special to be worth paying retail.  This shift dress is by Mango.  I love everything about it, especially the scoop back, and that its not too deep to have to figure out what to do about bra situation.

Daytime Leisure

The weather is warm enough for sandals but of course everywhere indoors the air conditioners are on arctic setting.  This thrifted cream colored cable knit is a repeated favorite for cooler weather.  I love how it matches a bold lip.  Striped trousers are where leisure enters the scene, they are so comfortable.

Casual Friday

Friday yay!  I'm casual and oh so cozy today.  And I'm loving pairing these menswear style oxfords with a folded up jean to expose the ankle, its very old school Italian fellow.

A Warning for Sensitive Eyes

Wearing pink in the fall?  Yes please.  I picked this matching knit set up at a yard sale for $2!  I felt like wearing this bold color on this bright fall day.  The color of this picture is not edited. Eyes might be delighted...or overwhelmed at the intensity.

On the runway for this fall pink has been sprinkled in various shades. Left to right: Agnona, Gucci, Altuzarra, Marissa Webb, Fendi, Christian Dior

Mod Meets Bohemian Trend

This top is long enough to wear as sort of a mini dress with opaque leggings.  I love the bohemian look it has with the lace design and its mod with its shift mini fit.  I paired it with another recent thrift find, these chunky wooden heels.
Enjoying the Kinks today.

Saturday

I am savoring the few random warm days we have left this year.  I went out to the yard sales this morning.  I thought I got a pretty good start on the morning, but each one I went to people had nothing but scraps left.  It was sort of entertaining though because I was on the trail of some die hard pickers.  These two ladies in a fancy hauling van were at every yard sale I stopped at, they did a scan of the yard sale with a cynical hawk eye and said "there's nothing for me here I'm leaving" it was funny because she practically announced it so people would get out of her way.  I know with some pickers time is money, but they do miss out on the best parts about yard saling, meeting the people, talking about nothing, and finding something useless you cannot live without...like a toothbrush cozy or something.

Gauchos

The term is referring to a South American cowboy.  The style of wide short leg trousers is what Gauchos used to wear.
I recently thrifted this pair of gauchos.  I know this style of trousers create a divide in the fashion world, similar to Birkenstock sandals.  I am obviously on the love em' side.
This olive green chunky knit was also a recent thrift find, heels were from Asos some time ago, and I just got these gorgeous knuckle rings from Pixie Market.

Vintage Sweater Vest

Ode to the vintage sweater vest, thrift shops are full of them.  Most remain homeless.  They're difficult to wear or just appear too silly.  This one drew my eye because of the jewel tone green it is, and I find it wearable because it closes high enough to wear as a top, not to mention it is not unbearably itchy like most wool vintage vests.  Its a keeper!  Jeans were thrifted also, they've just naturally torn with wear.
