I have been sick for the past week bleeeck!  Not even enough energy to be fashionably creative like her in the picture (Lupita Nyong Miu Miu Spring 14' ad)
I was thrifting last week and from around the corner I heard this guy coming towards me with this deep coarse cough and yep all over me!  Ugh, it was too late to turn away I knew I would be sick and sure enough the next day I was.

Muted Purple

This shade of purple has caught my eye a lot lately.  A dusty muted purple or deep purply taupe, is how I can best describe it.  Most typically worn in colder seasons, but who cares its pretty!  This is Pure Ice nail polish in Moonlight.  This gorgeous shadow is Milani's Bella Purple, and mixed with gold its even more stunning.  You can see where I dipped my gold brush in it.

Thrifted Look

I showed these in my recent thrift haul (vid below for your convenience) these are sheer wide leg trousers with slits in the top layer.  The have so much movement when I'm walking.  They're so comfortable to wear and yet still very polished.

Organza Fashion

This season I have loved what designers did with organza and playing with sheer fabrics.

Top Left: Fendi, Victoria Beckham, Barbara Casasola, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, Antonio Berardi, Theory, Burberry Prorsum, Erdem, Ostwald Helgason, Lacoste, Christopher Kane from Style.com

Sheers can be worn boldly for the whole world to gawk, or like myself, a little more realistically modest.  I adore organza!  Coming up next week I'll be sharing some sheer pieces from my closet.  Until then more inspiration!  Like these separates I put together on polyvore:

Oh dear readers, I could go on an on with organza.  I'll stop here though.

70s Fashion

This gaucho jumpsuit has a mind blowing print on it, much like a lot of 1970s printed fashion was.  I love the back on this, or lack of back.  Its a jumpsuit that can be worn dressy with heels and just around with flat leather sandals.
Do you have anything loud print-wise that you adore?  Tell me about it, I love a good print.

Print Mixing

I recently thrifted this cotton grid skirt and since its a small print I think it goes well with a larger print.  They clash but in harmony.  In August heat cotton and silk are definitely the way to go, they're light an airy.

Styling a Denim Skirt

Denim skirts are great for easy chic minimalist fashion.  I recently thrifted this skirt for 95 cents and love it!  It has a flattering high waist pencil fit and has a lot of character in the back.

July Favorites

Late to the show, but here is is:

From Left, thrifted cropped top, Miu Miu inspired sunnies, Nubian Heritage Shea Butter Lavender and Wildflowers soap, Royal Apothic Dogwood Blossom perfume, Giovanni Hot Chocolate Scrub, Nature's Harvest Coconut Strips.

I haven't worn these thrifted overalls in a while, mostly because the material definitely holds in the heat, so its an indoor look today.  I have this thrifted sheer taupe top on underneath.

The Ugly Wallpaper Dress

Husband's words not mine lol.  He means well, just like a good friend you can always count on to be sincerely honest, maybe a little ruthless, but still honest.  Ugly wallpaper or not, I still love this hand made dress and I was excited when I saw it on the rack at Goodwill.  It has a great mod shift dress cut and an adorable collar.

Thrifted Look

Good Monday.  A quick pick me up for a fashion slump on a Monday is wearing a favorite in your closet.   One favorite for me is this thrifted satin top, I love it for the print and the eye catching colors.

Spots and Shine

Found these leather metallic dance shoes at a yard sale, never worn.  I think they go well with polka dots, well almost anything goes with polka dots in my world.
I have to film the fashion edition of my latest haul, I have a lot of cool pieces and some that may leave you wondering what was she thinking?  Intrigued yet?  Stay tuned.

Floral Scarves

Hope you're having a good Saturday.  Today's post will be a random adoration of floral scarves.  I always have to stop over to the scarf rack when I'm thrifting, there are so many beautiful scarves I want to take them home with me.  I practice a little self control though.  Who wants to admire lovely floral scarves with me?  Here are a few that are gorgeous from polyvore.  None of which are thrifty, but fun to look at anyway.  From top left

Thrifted Look

Tan houndstooth blouse, high pleat waist shorts, and tan flatforms were thrifted.  No clothing or lack of clothing could be comfortable on this mega humid day!

The details are: Miu Miu inspired sunglasses, Milani Nude Chic lipstick, Buxom blush Shangri-la-la, and Diptyque's fragrance, Lavande.  I love lavender, but I'm looking for a fragrance with more dimension added with lavender still the main event.  I won't be buying a bottle of this because it lasts maybe 2 hours (that's a generous estimate)
So far my experience with Lavande is interesting while it lasts that is, its a real lavender scent that you're familiar with but it also has the green smell of the living plant too.  My nose detects lime  blended in with the spiciness, but there are no citrus notes listed.  So its a spicy lavender with phantom lime.  A casual daytime scent.

What's your Typography

Wearing the typography fashion trend.  This shirt has a quote from the cult classic movie, The Breakfast Club.  Who did you even remotely relate to in that film?  I could definitely have a Pixy Stix sandwich with Allison Reynolds.

Wearing my Miu Miu knock off sunnies and Nars Heat Wave, to add a bit more character to this jeans and t shirt look.

Thrifted Look

Mock neck top was a recent find and I thought it would look better slightly cropped so just did an old fashion trick, little side knot.  Paired it with an old favorite, these thrifted polka dot pants.

The details:  Thrifted giraffe cuff, black ceramic rose gold mens watch, Wet n Wild's Purty Persimmon lipstick, and this fragrance I have been swooning over lately.  This is La Maison de la Vanille's Vanille givree des Antilles.  Its such an intriguing vanilla, warm with spice, deeply sweet instead of sugar laden.   I detect a smoky citrus blended in there with the vanilla.  This is affordable too.

Pick Your Shift

Shift dress that is.  I love this cut of dress, despite the nature of the cut, not hugging or defining the shape, it still can be very sexy.  Here's a few collages I put together on polyvore inspired by the shift dress:

For work, this chic Miu Miu leather sleeved dress, maybe with something underneath that deep sheer vneck panel *wink*

For weekend an ever stylish striped shift dress, but for me these AMAZING Proenza Schouler leather pointy toe flats steal the show.

In the evening a shift dress with pattern and panels that give body sultry shape, is perfect in my book.  This shift dress has the right print to draw the eye.

Old Closet Favorite: Thrifted Look

Happy Friday! Outside today admiring my husband's sunflowers.  I am glad I got pictures with them before they get blown down by the insane amount of heavy wind and rain we've had.
Wearing an old thrifted favorite, this crochet lace blue tank dress.  I love it because it looks nice without being complicated, any simple makeup look and no hassle hair goes with it.

Thrifting Tips

Why thrift?  Well you're guaranteed to find something unique.  And if nothing else go for the brow raising entertainment, like this upcycled bra purse...thing?

Joking aside, you will have something different and special that you dug out and chose, not something for sale by the stack at a shop.
Sometimes you want to be trendy or like a common trend, since history repeats itself you can definitely look in a thrift shop for a similar piece.
I've gone to many a thrift shop, and I say don't be too quick to judge the shop from the outside, if its a huge mega center it might not1 be full of awesome stuff, if its small it might be worth checking out, I have found some of the coolest stuff in smaller shops than larger ones.
Find out when their sale times are and go go go!  Some thrift stores, especially chain thrift shops, tend to have email lists you can join for sale alerts. Goodwill has gotten expensive, yep expensive for a thrift shop!  I have seen dresses (non designer) there for $30!  Goodwill has half off color tag days and some have manager sale days (where everything in the store is half off) And while you're at checkout making small talk with the cashier (provided there isn't a huge line behind you!) you can ask where all the old inventory goes they may send it to an outlet!  wee thrift outlets!

Problems sometime arise, yea that dress is amazing, but will that stain come out?  The knit sweater is is chic, but how will you fix that hole?  So here's my fixes, first of all give it a sniff before buying, especially wools and knits!  If you buy before sniffing, for musty smell, you can soak it with room temp water and a generous amount of vinegar.  And or sprinkled baking soda, then launder as recommended.  If its a stubborn been sitting in the back of a thrift shop compressed against a hundred Christmas sweaters smell, you could try adding lavender essential oil to your soak, soak overnight then wash...if that doesn't work one last attempt would be to re do the soak then air dry.
I bought a leather jacket fully aware it had a musty odor, putting it in a dry cleaning back with baking soda in a sock tied up and left it hanging was helpful with removing the smell.  You can do the same with suede.  Add a dryer sheet in the bag to help refresh it.  Grease stains many times can be helped with good ol baking soda again.  What I do is rub the baking soda in to absorb the grease and launder accordingly.  With knit/crochet sweaters and loose yarn, you might be able to fix a hole by loosely weaving the loose yarn in and out of the garment.
Those are a few tips for now, more later my fellow thrift heads.

Tribal Boho Glamour

Sheer black camisole was from a recent yard sale haul.  This thrifted green skirt was handmade by some anonymous fashionable soul.  It has a ruched waist and great tribal geometric design.  My fringe bag was from a yard sale.  And there you have it, oh and the glamour part is my lipstick.  Nars Heat Wave again, just perfect for summer.
